My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rosie's heart as been broken, first her boyfriend Joey cheats on her with a "bleached blond freshman ho bag" then she discovers that not only did he cheat on her, said "ho bag" is now the new girlfriend. And that's just the start of her problems, she has now been presented with a temporary restraining order (TRO has Rosie likes to call it). She's not stalking, she swears all she wanted to do was say she was sorry for blowing up his car.

So now all Rosie needs to keep away from Joey. How hard can that be?

Matty her next door neighbor/ basically member of the family suggests she come with him and his friends on a cross country road trip. Her parents agree it's for the best because keeping her as far away from Joey is the most important thing, even if it means traveling alone with 3 guys.

I knew from the opening line that I was going to enjoy this book.

I wasn't always the kind of girl who wakes up on the first day of summer vacation to find herself on the receiving end of a temporary restraining order.

Matty and his two friends Logan and Spencer are absolutely great, I love the dorkiness of them. Rosie is probably the least likable character but she grows on you as the journey goes on. Because the person we get at the start of the adventure is different girl at the end.

This road trip doesn't just keep her from causing more trouble for herself with regards to Joey but it teaches her more about what she wants out of life and why she has done the things she has.

I love road trip stories because in taking the journey not only does the character discover different sights and make memories that will last, they discover something inside of themselves that inspires them to move towards something that will better their lives.

In How My Summer Went Up in Flames, Rosie realizes that what she always wanted for her life after she finished up High School isn't actually all life has to offer. We have a book about self discovery, friendship, adventure, firsts. All taking place on the great open road, with pre-planed pit stops along the way (I hope you read the initiatory ;) )
